Obituary for Nanci Mitchell

Nanci Mitchell
MITCHELL, Nanci Lee

Nanci Lee (AKA) Fanci Nanci) passed away at ARCH after a very courageous fight with cancer. Despite years of painful struggles, Nanci always had a smile on her face, to the very end. Nanci’s chronological age is not important – her fun-loving antics always reassured her family and friends that neither her heart, nor her soul, would ever grow old. Predeceased by high school sweetheart/husband Bobby Drebit; they shared their love of music and fun as high school sweethearts, and eventually married for a short time. Nanci is the dear mother of Dean Drebit and Rhonda Drebit. Nanci is the loving grama of Isaeh and Christina; and special auntie to Jennifer and her children; dear daughter of the late Edward Mitchell and Zakea Joseph Mitchell. Dear sister of Wayne (Vicki); Brenda Filipetti (Donald); Ronald (Barbara) Mitchell; Donna Barsanti (Harvey); Bruce Mitchell (Debbie); Eva DeBoer (Gary) and Jason Mitchell. Brothers/sisters through blood and marriage were by Nanci’s side throughout this sad time. Special friend of Lisa Mitchell, and fun-loving auntie to 20 nieces and nephews; The Mitchell family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the loving friends and family who kept a constant vigil at Nanci’s bedside throughout this long and sad journey; dear friends from nursing include special BFF’s Collette; Karen (Saskatoon), and Carol (Nanaimo), and longtime friends Val (Vernon), Louise (Kelowna). The longstanding love and care of amazing friends like Nel Rodgers inspired Nanci’s inner-artist, Lorraine Ryder inspired Nanci’s inner philosopher; Annie made her laugh; Anna May her dear golf buddy inspired her love of reading, and Robert BFF shared Nanci’s life and love of outdoor adventures, dogs and family time. Their kind friendship made Nanci’s life happy and full. All of these friends shared Nanci’s path to teach “life lessons” in their own unique and loving ways. Nanci is a better person because of them. Nanci’s dear sisters Brenda and Donna earned their “Angel Wings” through their unwavering love and care over the past couple years. They were by Nan’s side in childhood, and remained by her side through her Journey. Heartfelt gratitude to the 3rd Floor staff at Sault Area Hospital for their wonderful care, in particular ICU, Oncology, Radiology, surgical team and palliative care. Hugs to all the wonderful doctors, especially Dr. Jennifer Patterson and her lovely doc team for their continued hope and encouragement, as well as the London Health Sciences surgical/professional team. Fanci Nanci maintained her fun-loving spirit and infectious laughter until the very end. The sparkle in her eyes is still there – now only with us in photos. Her niece captured that spirit just last week in the attached photo. Nanci’s absence will leave a sadness in our hearts, but laughter as we remember fun times together, and warm childhood family memories. A private funeral service will take place, and a celebration of Nanci’s life will be held at a later date. A donation in Nanci’s name is being made to ARCH and the Sault Area Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions to either of these amazing facilities would be greatly appreciated by the family.
