Obituary for Velma Scanlan

Velma peacefully passed away at Freightview Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on May 24, 2018. Predeceased by her husband and best friend John Scanlan. Brothers; Elmer, Lloyd and Wes. Sisters; Lena and Millie. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews and their families. Aunt Velma was the glitter girl of the McCoy’s. Always ready for new experiences and her love of great adventures, from working in Ft. Lauderdale for many winters, LaFrance Furs and Bell Telephone (in Sault Ste. Marie) for the rest of the year. Velma moved to Chicago, Ill., here she met the love of her life, John Scanlan. Velma retired (1981) from Bell Telephone (AT & T) in Chicago. Her favorite past time was spending holidays at their cottage on Lake Superior at Horseshoe Bay, Ontario and later on in life- watching the big freighters from the patio of Freightview and, of course, ice cream and pizza. Special thanks goes out to all the staff at Freightview for their kindness, support and the tenderness and love they shared with Velma and family, the past two years. Also, David Bulson for all his legal expertise and his caring nature in taking care of Velma’s legal endeavors and supporting Velma’s family through this process. One of her favorite expressions was “They do take very good care of me at Freightview, so don’t worry about me”. Velma’s wishes were that she be cremated.
